About Sindhudvipa

This part of the Ikshvaku succession follows Bhagiratha, the king associated with bringing Ganga to earth. It later reaches Saudasa’s troubled household, Khatvanga’s final spiritual turning and the line of Raghu. The succession spans generations rather than identifying all these events with one reign.

Recorded Context

His Place in the Royal Family

Sindhudvipa follows Ambarisha as his son in the succession. Nabhaga is the preceding grandfather’s generation. The line then passes to Ayutashva and, in the following generation, to Rituparna. These generations belong to the same royal succession. They connect an earlier household to the later members of its family, even where the account passes over a reign without recounting a separate adventure.

The Surrounding Royal Story

Bhagiratha’s descent of Ganga belongs to an earlier ancestor; Saudasa’s curses and Madayanti’s difficult motherhood concern a later royal household. The following genealogy continues through Mulaka and Khatvanga toward Raghu and Rama. These individual stories explain the broader family setting while remaining attached to their actual participants.

ROLE & ESSENCE

Attributes & Significance

This king’s position preserves a link within the succession that joins the Ganga-descent tradition to the later royal line of Raghu. The named generations prevent familiar ancestors and descendants from being mistaken for immediate father and son.
