About Sahasrajit

Yadu’s family does not continue through a single uninterrupted royal household. The account names Sahasrajit beside Kroshtu, Nala and Raghu. Kroshtu’s descendants receive their own extended genealogy, while the succession through Sahasrajit leads toward the rulers associated with Mahishmati and the thousand-armed Kartavirya Arjuna.

IN THE TRADITION

Recorded Context

Family and Wider Context

The famous warrior in this branch is a much later descendant, not Sahasrajit himself. Kartavirya Arjuna obtains extraordinary strength through Dattatreya’s favor, captures Ravana and eventually dies at Parashurama’s hands. Those events explain why the Haihaya ancestry receives attention, but the blessings and battles belong to Kartavirya rather than to every ancestor in his family.

ROLE & ESSENCE

Attributes & Significance

Sahasrajit’s place clarifies a distinction that can otherwise be lost under the broad name Yadava. The Haihayas and the family followed through Kroshtu share descent from Yadu while developing as separate branches. Their shared ancestry does not make their later rulers contemporaries.

TRADITION & MEANING

Traditions & Interpretations

The name Sahasrajit recurs elsewhere in the Yadava genealogies. Yadu’s son is identified here through Shatajit and the Haihaya succession, rather than through a later household bearing the same personal name.
