About Chyavana
Divodasa is his grandfather. After Chyavana, the genealogy follows Sudasa, Saudasa and Somaka. This identifies a royal household separate from the sage Chyavana’s family and from the other royal Chyavana who precedes Kritaka in Kuru’s Magadha-related branch.

ROLE & ESSENCE
Attributes & Significance
The two royal Chyavanas belong to different branches within the wider Paurava ancestry. This Panchala figure connects Mitrayu to Sudasa; the Kuru-branch namesake connects Suhotra to Kritaka and Uparichara Vasu.
TRADITION & MEANING
Traditions & Interpretations
The different royal namesakes have different fathers and children. Matching the name alone would incorrectly join two branches and then attach a sage’s unrelated personal biography to both.
The Vishnu Purana gives Chyavana, Sudasa, Saudasa and Somaka as successive generations after Mitrayu. A Bhagavata translation groups Chyavana, Sudasa, Sahadeva and Somaka as Mitrayu’s sons. The succession here follows the Vishnu Purana; the different arrangement is not silently combined with it.
