About Purujanu
Shanti is his grandfather, and Nila appears one generation farther back. Purujanu’s son Chakshu is the father of Haryashva. The five brothers associated with the Panchala name are therefore Purujanu’s great-grandsons. His name identifies this particular ancestor, rather than Puru, the much earlier founder of the wider royal family.

Purujanu belongs to the older family shared by Haryashva’s five sons. The royal branches that later reach Drupada and the Mahabharata’s Panchala court develop from this common ancestry.
TRADITION & MEANING
Traditions & Interpretations
The Bhagavata gives the corresponding name Puruja and places Arka after him. Its wording is related to this genealogy but differs from the Vishnu Purana’s Purujanu and Chakshu sequence.
