About Jahnu
His father is the Kuru born to Samvarana and Tapati. His son is Suratha, followed by Viduratha and Sarvabhauma. Sudhanush is another of Kuru’s sons, but the royal route toward Pratipa proceeds through Jahnu rather than through that brother’s Magadha-related branch.

ROLE & ESSENCE
Attributes & Significance
Jahnu’s place separates two branches descending from Kuru. It explains why the family reaching Shantanu and the family reaching Uparichara Vasu share an older ancestor while having different intermediate fathers and sons.
TRADITION & MEANING
Traditions & Interpretations
The Bhagavata also places this Jahnu between Kuru and Suratha. The river-sage Jahnu belongs to another family setting, associated with the course of the Ganga. The royal son of Kuru is identified instead by his descendants leading toward Pratipa and Shantanu.
