Original Suvarnaveda painted interpretationTHE LIVING ARCHIVE
The Yadavas trace their ancestry to Yadu, with several distinct family branches developing among his descendants. Abhijit belongs to the branch named for Kukkura, a son of Andhaka. His earlier ancestors include Vrishta, Kapotaroman and Viloman. His father Bhava is also called Chandanodakadundubhi and is remembered as Tumburu’s friend. These details describe a human royal household, not an astral personification.
AT A GLANCE
IN THE TRADITION
ROLE & ESSENCE
Devaki and Kamsa are cousins through their fathers, not siblings born to one parent. Abhijit’s descendants show where their families share ancestry while keeping the Devaka and Ugrasena households distinct.
TRADITION & MEANING
Abhijit is also a name used in astral and calendrical traditions. Here it identifies the royal son of Bhava; it does not mean that a star or a time period is Punarvasu’s parent.
