About Kshema

His parentage is stated explicitly after the wedding of Ganesha to Siddhi and Buddhi, the daughters of Prajapati Vishvarupa. The two sons are named with their mothers, so Kshema belongs to Siddhi’s branch of the household rather than Buddhi’s.

Recorded Context

The Family After the Wedding

Kshema’s birth follows a marriage won through Ganesha’s insight. Asked to travel around the earth, Ganesha worships and circles Shiva and Parvati instead. They accept his explanation that honoring his parents fulfills the journey’s sacred purpose, and arrange his marriage. The children appear in the continuation of that household story.

Kartikeya Hears the News

When Kartikeya returns, Narada tells him that Ganesha has already married and become the father of two sons. Kshema therefore belongs to the family news that follows the brothers’ different responses to the contest; he is not the participant who competes with Kartikeya.

ROLE & ESSENCE

Attributes & Significance

The named mother makes his relationship precise: Ganesha is his father, Siddhi his mother and Vishvarupa his maternal grandfather. Labha shares his father but has a different mother.
