Puranic / Epic Royal Genealogy · Yadava Royal House
Marisha is Shura’s wife and the mother of Vasudeva, Pritha and their siblings. Her children connect Krishna’s family with the Pandavas’ maternal ancestry and several other royal houses.

Her husband is Devamidhusha’s son and belongs to Andhaka’s branch through Hridika and Bhajamana. Marisha’s own importance lies in this connected royal household: Vasudeva becomes Krishna’s father, while Pritha later becomes known as Kunti. She is a human queen in this genealogy. She is distinct from the earlier progenitress Marisha whose story involves Kandu, Pramlocha, the trees and the Prachetas.
AT A GLANCE
IN THE TRADITION
ROLE & ESSENCE
Her daughters’ marriages make Marisha a shared maternal ancestor of Dantavaktra, Shishupala, the five Kekaya brothers and the Avanti princes Vinda and Anuvinda in this account. These relatives later belong to different households and take different roles in the epic stories.
TRADITION & MEANING
The progenitress Marisha is connected with the Prachetas and the birth of Daksha. That unusual origin story belongs to a different bearer of the name; it is not the birth or marriage story of Shura’s Yadava queen.
