About Pravira
In this account Pravira is Prachinvat’s son and Manasyu’s father. Prachinvat follows Janamejaya, Puru’s son. Pravira therefore occupies a distinct generation between the founder’s early descendants and Manasyu’s branch, which continues through Bhayada and Sudyumna.

ROLE & ESSENCE
Attributes & Significance
Pravira’s place helps distinguish an early Paurava ancestor from later kings who also bear the name. His identity is established by both the parent before him and the child after him in this particular account.
Role
Pravira belongs to the early Paurava royal ancestry that precedes Dushyanta and Bharata. The Vishnu Purana places him within the first generations descending from Puru.
TRADITION & MEANING
Traditions & Interpretations
The Mahabharata gives an alternative early succession in which Pravira is directly Puru’s son and Suraseni is Manasyu’s mother. In the Vishnu Purana, Prachinvat stands between Puru’s son Janamejaya and Pravira. The two accounts arrange the early royal family differently.
