About Puruhotra
Puruhotra belongs to the line descended from Kratha, Vidarbha and Jyamagha. His older ancestry passes through Kuruvatsa and Anavaratha to the royal Madhu. He stands close to a major division in the Yadava family: Satvata’s sons begin several separate royal branches. Puruhotra is part of the shared ancestry before that division, rather than a founder of a different people outside the Yadavas.

ROLE & ESSENCE
Attributes & Significance
Through Anshu, Puruhotra is the grandfather of Satvata and the great-grandfather of Satvata’s sons. Those sons include Andhaka, Vrishni, Devavriddha and Mahabhoja. Their different houses share this older descent even as the later narrative follows their households separately.
TRADITION & MEANING
Traditions & Interpretations
Puruhotra is a Yadava ancestor. Puru, Yayati’s son, belongs to another royal line; the similarity at the beginning of the names does not make these two figures one person.
