Puranic / Epic Royal Genealogy · Yadava Royal House
Viduratha is Bhajamana’s son and the father of an early Yadava ancestor named Shura. His descendants eventually include the parents of Vasudeva and Pritha.
Original Suvarnaveda painted interpretationTHE LIVING ARCHIVE
His father Bhajamana belongs to Andhaka’s branch of Satvata’s family. Viduratha’s son Shura is followed by Shamin, Pratikshatra, Svayambhoja and Hridika. This Shura is an earlier ancestor, not the later husband of Marisha. Several generations separate Viduratha’s household from the family in which Vasudeva and Pritha are born. The repeated royal name does not shorten that succession.
AT A GLANCE
IN THE TRADITION
ROLE & ESSENCE
Viduratha belongs to the ancestry connecting the older Andhaka family with Krishna’s paternal relatives. His immediate son is the earlier Shura; Vasudeva’s father belongs much further down the line.
TRADITION & MEANING
A Viduratha also occurs in the Kuru succession as Suratha’s son and Sarvabhauma’s father. This Yadava Viduratha is Bhajamana’s son. The two family settings identify distinct royal ancestors despite their shared name.
